When you lose your job after 19 years, and the market is saturated with unemployed recruiters and managers....what do you do? No job; no prospects; hummmmmm...time to do what you love.

Welcome to my gardening, bug, & photo website and blog, where I share my passion for pollinators and photography.

Hi! My name is Chris. I live in Sullivan County PA. A small rural county in the Endless Mountains. I moved here 16 years ago, and there was not one plant on our property (except the woodland surrounding our house). I planted and replanted MANY plants....some lived, most died....but I am determined to create a yard sanctuary to attract pollinators, so I can take pictures from my own yard...so my journey continues.

I applied to the Penn State Extension Master Gardener Program, and plan to take you along on my journey....if I get accepted. Update 10-4: I was accepted into the Penn State Extension Master Gardener basic training program. Basic training include the following topics: botany, plant propagation, soil health and fertilizer management, composting, controlling pests safely, entomology, plant diseases, indoor plants, vegetables, tree and small fruits, lawn care, pruning, woody ornamentals, herbaceous plants, native plants, weeds and invasives, and landscape design. Tips and info will be in my blog section.

I will share a lot of my favorite photos (all taken by me). Some are good; some are ok...this is a learning process also.
I hope to inspire you to create your own beautiful garden and help protect our precious pollinators. We learn from mistakes, so don't be afraid to make some...I sure have, but I keep trying.

WELCOME

Our
Story
Get to Know Us
Bob and I met at a cancer support meeting in 2006. We both share the experience of being survivors - Bob of non-hodgkin's lymphoma and me of colon, breast, and most recently basal cell. Over time, we developed a strong friendship and before we knew it, we were moving into our new home together.
Moving Day!

Over the years, I've made numerous attempts at gardening. Some have been successful, while others have been less so. But with each attempt, I've learned something new and gained valuable experience that I can apply to gardening endeavors.
This first vegetable garden - total failure.

We started to add flowers and a weeping cherry tree.

We started to attract some wildlife and insects.

We planted flowers...
and planted more flowers...

Stuff we learned over the years:
Attracting pollinators to your garden is essential for a healthy ecosystem. One of the best ways to do this is by flowers that are attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Some of best flowers for this purpose include lavender, sunflowers, and wildflowers. By incorporating these plants into your garden, you can help support the pollinator population and enjoy a beautiful and vibrant outdoor space.

What did I learn...

Host Plants

If You Plant It, They Will Come
Strive to provide the correct host plants to attract bugs to your garden.
Research your local butterflies and what are their host plants.
Native is best!
Nectar Plants
Provide a "smorgasbord" of nectar plants. The importance of providing the right food source for these creatures, will ensure return visitors.
You may need to do some research...check out my blogs.
